Specific Page Types
Since WordPress doesn’t provide a way to set featured images for category and tag archives, search results and 404 page types, we have built in some special ways to change the hero section background image for these. Below are a list of additional page types and the method to set the featured image:
Post Type Archives
To set the hero section background image for a custom post type archive, first create a page with a slug that matches the custom post type. For example, to set a featured image for the ‘Downloads’ archive, you would create a page with ‘download’ for the permalink:
Note that there is no ‘s’ on the end of the post type, some post types are plural and some are singular, in this case the name of the custom post type is singular
The featured image for this page will now be used as the background image for the downloads archive page, e.g
https://example.com/downloads.
Search Results
The Search Results page follows the same process as Post Type Archives, except using ‘search’ for the permalink. Startup Pro includes a
[search_form] shortcode which is used in the excerpt field of the Search page in the theme demo:
Error 404 Page
The Search Results page follows the same process as Post Type Archives, except using ‘search’ for the permalink:
Categories
To set a featured image for a category archive, first upload the image to your site’s
Media Library. Click on the image to open the Attachment Details popup window. From here you can edit the image information:
Change the
Title of the image to ‘category-‘, followed by the slug of your category. For example, to set the image for the ‘Work’ category, you would change the Title to ‘category-work’, as shown in the example above.
Tags
Tags follow the same process as Categories except the Title should be prefixed with ‘tag-‘ instead of ‘category-‘:
Custom Taxonomies
Custom taxonomy archives follow the same process as
Categories except the Title should be prefixed with ‘term-‘ instead of ‘category-‘. For example, to set the hero section background image for a WooCommerce Product Category called ‘Clothing’, you would use ‘term-clothing’ as the Title:
